Because then you can't do useful things like right click on the icon and
select "Empty Trash".

Just a random update... I haven't had as much time as I'd hoped to work
on this, and my hastily-coded implementation and reorg is somewhat
crashy.  Maybe I'll have time this weekend, though I have a friend
visiting.  We'll see.
