As the two projects that were talked about here were a login manager and 
a doc viewer I'd like to mention that latest gdm does not actually have 
any gnome deps, and evince-gtk it is installable from dapper 
repositories. The upstream developers did not consider the patch for 
merging (yet). Both gdm and evince degnomification were motivated by a 
need to have such lighter apps for xubuntu while preferring to work on 
existing codebase rather that writing apps from scratch.
