Hmm. You're right. Not sure it matters too much, since editing items 
should not be a very common task, but still...

I'd like to try and make the other menus open when you move the mouse 
over them, like with a menu bar. I'm not sure this can easily be done, 
though.

I don't think I'll add the old behaviour back though. Too often I have 
been asked to make the menus in the regular gtk menus -- much of what 
you feel uncomfortable with is a consequence of this change.
