Regular panel autohide broken

Jasper,

with your latest changes you somehow managed to break the regular
autohide functionality ^_^

Autohiding the panel in 'full-width'-mode still works but as soon as
I'm only selecting autohide at the settings menu the panel stays hidden
at the screen edge forever. I can only bring it back by selecting 'full
width' once more.

Any thoughts?
