A Small Panel Idea

Musing today I thought it might be nice to have a short description
available for each panel plugin, and the add item dialog could have
two tabs  one listing the available items and another showing details
for the currently selected plugin. Gaim uses something similar in it's
plugin UI. I started to patch to add it, but frankly, I'm a C moron,
and I wasn't sure what the best way to add the info to the plugin was.
Is there a way to add it to the .so itself in an easily extractable
way, and if so, can it be done without breaking the panel ABI? I'd
hate to think that users have to recompile their plugins for every
major Xfce version.
