KDE Versus Xfce

Ugh, xfdesktop takes forever to start, and I imagine it's worse in SVN
(well, actually, maybe a draw, since I improved the initial menu generation
time).  Methinks I need to sit down with sysprof for a while.

Sorry Brian, but you're right :) Xfdesktop seems to be the slowest part of
Xfce. Replacing Xfwm + Xfdesktop with Openbox makes things a lot more
snappy.
If I've understood correctly, Xfdesktop is generating the menus every time?
Why is that? Couldn't it just generate them once, and after that, only when
asked to? I know it's lo-tech, but a mouse click vs 2secs loading time, and
slower running all the time..
