RC1 : problem + QA items

no & no.

the behaviour is now consistent, after i suppressed session management
(for quite different reasons, which i will report on later).
the final  3  lines (mem, swap, up-time) don't appear at 1st start-up,
but do appear after changing to another desktop & back again.

so this seems to be a buglet in RC1, but as you say not to do with SM.
