i had been thinking about that one, actually, and while i think that
dialog _looks nice_, i personally don't think it's terribly functional
or flexible:
1) it forces the user to work with a list-type model, when maybe all
they want to do is set their backdrop to a photo they just took.
2) it makes adding other options (a true image list, a random image)
result in adding UI elements that make it look like an afterthought.
3) if someone comes up with a new option for displaying the backdrop, it
will likely require an UI redesign, where with my design, it can likely
just be added as an extra option.
and then there's the egotisical argument... why would we want a backdrop
settings box that's just a clone of gnome's? ^_~ seriously, though, i
have no problem with borrowing ideas from elsewhere... as long as i
think they are good ideas.
now, i have a problem with the dialog i came up with, that i'm not sure
how to solve. if there is an image selected for the backdrop, but it
doesn't fill the entire screen, then the currently selected color should
fill the empty areas. but with this model, there's no way to pick
whether it's the solid color or the gradient that does the "backup fill"
(not without adding another UI element, anyway, which i'm not thrilled
with).
