I'm not sure about Brians changes to XfceIconTheme after rc1, but I 
think that the long standing "missing icons" bug is really a simple path 
problem. Can you try to temporary copy the hicolor theme from 
/usr/share/icons over to /opt/gnome/share/icons and see if that fixes 
the problem (Xfce restart required)?
