yes i know - personally i wouldn't use the desktop icons, but it sounds 
like it might be fun (or at least interesting) to code, so...  at any 
rate, xfce won't be any worse for them, as it'll be 100% disable-able.  
you won't even know it's there if you don't want it ^_~.
