well, that was rather tedious (though, sadly, more enjoyable than what i 
had been doing before), but the bug tracker is rather clean now.  i 
closed (i think) 40 out of 83 bugs, so now we're down to 43.

please, everyone, in the future, if you resolve a bug, unless you have 
a specific reason for keeping it open, remember to close the bug as 
well.
  
at least 90% of the bugs i closed were already marked as resolved in 
some manner.  others were clearly fixed from the bug comments, but not 
resolved or closed.  there were a few more that i probably could have 
closed, but instead posted a question for further information, just to 
make sure.

oh, and sorry for the bugs list spam ^_~.
