two panels simultaneously?

I've seen on one or two screenshots, including one of Benedikt's, the
simultaneous usage of two or more panels, each in a different location
and each with its own set of launchers. Is this still possible, or is it
a thing of the past? if it is possible, how does one accomplish it?
