how do you compile and run the mixer?

Hi Danny,
I do have libmixer.so in /usr/local/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins/.
Starting the panel from a terminal doesn't produce any useful error
messages:
[todd at clevername todd]$ xfce4-panel
** Message: xfce4: Running without session manager
** Message: xfce4: module clock successfully loaded
** Message: xfce4: module mailcheck successfully loaded
** Message: xfce4: module pager successfully loaded
** Message: xfce4: module switcher successfully loaded
** Message: xfce4: module systembuttons successfully loaded
