Yes, this works but it has ever worked in that way. Are you sure that
.ps.gz is associated with gv and not gz so that a normal gz file will be
opened with gv.

Before I do this:

[~] $ grep '(gv)' .xfce4/xffm/xffm.reg 
(.eps) (gv) ()
(.ps) (gv) ()


And after:

[~] $ grep '(gv)' .xfce4/xffm/xffm.reg 
(.eps) (gv) ()
(.gz) (gv) ()
(.ps) (gv) ()

You see that not .ps.gz is associated with gv but only .gz which makes
it useless.
