mouse & keyboard modules never appear

In a terminal do:
ls -l /usr/lib/xfce4/mcs-plugins
tail -f ~/.xsession-errors

The files mouse_plugin.la, mouse_plugin.so, keyboard_plugin.la,
keyboard_plugin.so should be there (and size > 0 ;)).

More interesting would be messages logged in the xsession-errors file
(like, undefined symbol, or so).

This assumes that you installed xfce in the /usr prefix and use gdm for
login...
(if you used startx, warnings would appear on the terminal on which you
typed the startx before)
