No.  It shows the name I typed in, but once I want to see the 
shares it stops.  There's no network traffic related to it, too.

I mean, I should at least see something on the network device due 
to the nmblookup command, should I not?

I don't think it's a samba problem.  More likely the code 
executing the samba commands (nmblookup, smbclient, etc.).
Is there something that should be installed for it to be working?
