We will always have tarballs for releases. There's no question about
that.

I'd like to be able to make a distinction between bugfix-releases and
new-feature/big changes releases. But you do have a point about our
limited resources ...

How about leaving it up to the maintainer if he (hmm, no she yet ...)
needs an extra development branch. Personally I need it for the panel
when I'm going to turn it into a gtk widget. I will need test 4.1.x
release as well, because the changes will be quite large. I'd like to be
able to do bugfix-only releases for the current code-base.
