xffm configure problem

I've just been trying to build xfce4 on an RH7.3 box, but in a
non-standard location.

I built libdbh and installed that in the directory (/solar1/sjt) and
then went through the various xfce4 modules. All went fine up to xffm.
The xffm configuration does not find libdbh (or more likely the include
files) and configure doesn't seem to support --with-extra-includes
(and/or libs) which would be needed to force it to look for includes in
the right place. Is this readily fixable (I'm no autoconf expert)?
