wavelan plugin woes

Hi all, 
Im having a small issue with the wavelan plugin on my laptop.
First it didnt find the include for freebsd <machine/if_wavelan_ieee.h> 
as it is in /usr/include/dev/wi,  so i fixed that 
(<dev/wi/if_wavelan_ieee.h>) and it compiled and installed flawlessly. 
but when i restart the panel (killall -USR1 xfce4-panel),  it doesnt 
appear in the list of things to add to the panel. I looked and it 
installed to the panel plugin directory with all the others,  so I have 
no idea what to do from here. was wondering if anyone else on FreeBSD 
(i'm on 4.9R) has had this problem.
