that the ongoing battle with UNIX has escalated.

IBM just declared war. :)

It appears that IBM has just been waiting for SCO to expose enough of
their flank to cut them off.

BTW, RedHat also filed a lawsuit against SCO(formally Caldera)

I sure would not want to be at SCO right now...
