Moe,

I just checked and I confirm that Abiword-2.0 specifies a resize
increments of 10 pixels both vertically and horizontally.

xprop gives :

WM_NORMAL_HINTS(WM_SIZE_HINTS):
                program specified minimum size: 100 by 100
                program specified resize increment: 10 by 10
                program specified base size: 820 by 580
                window gravity: NorthWest

Therefore there is nothing wrong if the window doesn't maximize totally
as the size of your screen (including struts and user margins) is
probably not a multiple of 10.
