Ok, I hadn't thought of it like that myself, but you convinced me that
it might be the most consistent way to handle. 

So, the panel should just collapse into a small empty window with the
same width or height as the unhidden panel. The panel will only hide to
the edge when the panel itself is on the edge (which is the most logical
place anyway).
