about translation

Hello All,
Im new to xfce, just found  it yesterday and installed on my linux box. just
after that i decided to add turkish language support  to it, so i have some
things to ask, forgive me if these questions dont belong here, and guide me
please in that case,
- im not an expert in gettext utils and file formats, i just edit xfce.port
and add my language msgstrings save it tr.po, and then use msgfmt utility to
produce tr.gmo.
- edited configure.in and add tr to the ALL_LINGUAS and added the correct
line to the sed -e coloums.

is that the correct way for xfce devs. to add native languages? or not , how
should i do that with xfce? can someone guide please?
