Well, I guess you earned the right to ask for more features now,
although I still may tell you to go write them yourself ;-)

Forget that day job ;-) Both would be really great. In fact I would
perhaps even prefer that over you doing fixes to the panel, since I 
can do them quite easily myself.

For the taskbar I'm thinking that it may be easier to just add the 
taskbar to the panel, like the xfce3 taskbar, but without the ability to
detach it. Then we can just make a separate stand-alone taskbar. They
both can use the as yet non-existing library with freedesktop hints. I
think this would simplify things a bit. The separate taskbar can be 
added to xfce-utils perhaps.

well, whatever you decide the vertical panel is a big success already.
