How do I select my mouse theme from the command line?

What is happening is that when I kill oneko (cat that chases my
mouse around the screen), I get and X instead of an arrow for
my mouse pointer.

If I go into Settings->Mouse and Touchpad->Theme I can select
what I want. Works 100% of the time.

But from the command line, I can only get the default pointer
some of the time.

$ xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Gtk/CursorThemeName -s "MATE"
or "MATE (Black)" or "Adwaita" or "Default"

The above gives me the default pointer, but only about 20% of
the time. The rest of the time, I get ignored.

I am trying to set up a launcher on the desktop for my wife
to kill oneko when she uses my computer. She is "not fond"
of oneko.
