4.14?

Why use MATE when there's Xfce? Just kidding, use whatever you like. But 
4.12 is still perfectly fine. I'm using 4.12 on my laptop with Xubuntu 
18.04 and 4.13 (well, for the most part, since Xfce is modular in 
nature) on my PC with 18.10.

It works. So version numbers doesn't really matter to me that much. 
There are mostly just under the hood changes and I'm an end user.
