I wonder what "xfce4 function" in your original request is for. Since
you are unwilling to describe your issue by providing a view details,
nobody is able to help you. It's only possible to provide shots in the
dark.

Did you run another file manager instead of Thunar? If so, it's possible
that you still run a Xfce4 session, but the file manager might have
taken over the desktop.

We could provide tons of different shots in the dark and even if one
shot in the dark should fix the issue, it might not fix the cause and
you easily could run into that issue again.

What is "Another session manager is already running" for? Did you read
it anywhere? Is it copy and pasted from something?

What processes are running or not running?

Did you e.g. run ps and grep for keywords?

ps aux | grep xf | grep 4
ps aux | grep session
ps aux | grep foo
ps aux | grep bar | grep desktop_or_whatsoever

Did you try already anything? If so, what? If not, why not?
