Hi,

that's an odd advice. Don't! Even don't delete .config/xfce4*!
If you guess that something should be fishy, by perhaps even some
completely unrelated configuration, then for testing purpose add a new
user and run Xfce4 by a session of the new user or indeed rename:

  mv -i .config/xfce4/ .config/xfce4.bak
  mv -i .config/xfce4-session/ .config/xfce4-session.bak
