focus does not return

I have "click to focus" and "new windows get focus" configured.

When I start a new X program and terminate it, the focus does not return
to last active window, but to another one.
This behaviour is really annoying.
Can I change it?

Next: can I query by command which workspace (virtual screen) is the
current one?
