I use the LTS version of Xubuntu, so I rarely upgrade from what comes
with it.  I may for this one, but see also below.

Interesting - it seems thati this file was modified whereas the global
one in /etc still shows the keybindings I prefer.

That helped a lot.  I took out most of the duplicates from both my
file and the system file and the keys seem to work a lot better.

Seems like eliminating the duplication would be a worthwhile project
for the developers, no?

Anyway, I have it working now - had to logout and back in to get them,
but I haven't seen a failure yet.
