Nonsense. Debian's and Ubuntu's x86 32 bits flavors are both compiled 
for i386.
But no one will be foolish enough tro try to use it on a real i386.

Even Arch is super slow on a Pentium 2, which is what Arch's 32 bit 
flavor is compiled for (i686).
The majority of today's software, whatever the distro, won't be usable 
enough on a 15 years old x86 computer.
