I suppose, if the OP trusts one of the more knowledge people on this mailing list (or anyone with the necessary skill set), OP could configure the system for remote login and allow the trusted/knowledgeable person to log in and investigate.

But, yes, this seems like an Ubuntu (ish) problem, rather than an XFCE one.
