Making XFCE as default on Ubuntu

Unless you want to start from scratch again, this is not going to
help you. But, in the future, if you are targetting Ubuntu specifically,
but want XFCE, I would recommend XUbuntu. AFAIK, it's all the same
repositories, but the installer sets things up with XFCE as the default,
and avoid the headaches you are going through at the moment.
