Hello,
Have you tried not to use the session cache, nor "Session and Startup" ?
From my experience, editing
/etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml and
replacing "xfwm4" with "other_wm" ("sawfish" in this case) is far more
stable (if *no other* method to start the wm is used).
