I guess it depends on your intended audience. Thunar is geared towards
end-users, so the current setup seems warranted to me: To avoid data
loss all deletions go via Trash. Advanced users can always use the
combo to perform direct deletes. If you want a FM that does what it
says, perhaps something like emelFM2 or Rodent would be a  better
option.
