Is you run "exo-open http://xfce.org" from a terminal it works as 
expected?

Is there an http entry in the 
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list?

The latter is propbably the problem (no mimetype handler found for 
http, but I can work around that in the code if the error occurs.
