I'm getting "thunar-volman: Unsupported USB device type.", can anyone explain?

Further to my questions about USB drives not getting automounted on my
xubuntu 11.10 system I have been playing further and I'm seeing the
following if/when I run thunar:-

    chris$ thunar
    thunar-volman: Unsupported USB device type.
    thunar-volman: Unsupported USB device type.
    thunar-volman: Unknown block device type.
thunar-volman: Could not detect the volume corresponding to the device.

This USB drive appears absolutely normally in dmesg and I can mount it
manually with no problems:-

So why is thunar-volman having such trouble with it? On my laptop (also
running xubuntu 11.10) it all works perfectly, the drive automounts and
thunar shows its contents with no problems.
