Don't want to derail this discussion so I will stop at pointing out
that Gentoo also supports binary packages and it doesn't force you to
upgrade to the latest and greatest as Arch does AFAICT. I am not a fan
of compiling the office suites or the big browsers and I enjoy
downgrading a package now and then or even abstain from upgrading,
sometimes for years.
