Liviu, that's a terrific post. And your analysis is completely
correct, at least for my case. I left Ubuntu because of Unity Desktop,
I left Debian Gnome because of the Gnome 3 shell.

For the most part, the XFCE experience has been pleasant.  Still, a
few things are inconvenient, but it is orders of magnitude better than
Gnome 3 or Unity!
