Hi,
I tried to perform the debugging instructions you wrote.
I get as far as typing "gdb xfce4-panel", but the panels do not show?
Here is a screenshot:

What am I doing wrong?
I did install the "*-dbg" packages and ran "xterm" by typing "Alt+F2".
