What is the difference between suspend by closing the laptop's lid and clicking Logout\Suspend

I don't know but to me that suggests that your battery may be running
down quicker under one than the other. Maybe one method goes into S3
and one into S1 which would mean you would have the same problem under
both but one takes longer to lose the ram contents as it is in a deeper
lower power sleep perhaps turning off your wireless or network card
and so wake on lan.
