I used udev rules with xfce 4.8 to statify the mount points on a
read-only root and also automount (helpful when not using X11) and set
the mount options. It was more work than I was expecting and whilst it
works fine in nautilus. Thunar seems to only show the device and not
the mount point. I'll have to try again with the new thunar though.
