Can't shut down from user session.

Originally I could click on the right boxes and shut down my system
when signed on as user "foo". Now even after I answer my password
question I can't shut down the system. Somewhere, somehow, I have
denied myself permission. I can always go to a root session of course
but that is a chore and a bore.

Any clue as to where this permission is stored? I run Slackware 13.0
and use XFCE 4.6.1
