Apps crash under 4.8, including xfdesktop

Hello people. I just installed 4.8, with the latest versions seen on the
list, and am now typing in a text browser, because most, if not all
programs crash:

sumbol lookup error: .... libexo-module-1.so: undefined symbol:
g_desktop_app_info_lookup_get_type

I searched for this symbol, and found a reference that it was recently
removed from gio (put the symbol - alone - in google, and the first
reference describes that).

I have gtk+-2.22.1, glib 2.26.1

strace tells the same story...

I'd very much appreciate indications how to proceed... Else I'll have to
reinstall 4.6!
