WPA2 security

Running Mint v 9 Xfce on a laptop.
Router, Netgear DG834G

I can set up WPA2 on my router OK. Where I get stuck is on the laptop. 
I am not sure what to do on the laptop so that it will link wirelessly 
to the router. The router is attached by cable to my desktop computer 
in another room.

So at the moment I have security disabled, which is probably not a 
good idea.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
