diagonal change of work space (desktops)

[Using xfce4 4.6.2 on Gentoo Linux]

I have migrated from fvwm2 to xfce4 six months ago and I like it very
much. The only thing that I miss is the following. I have 9 virtual
desktops in the form 3x3. When I change the desktop diagonally with the
mouse, then the change does not happen directly, but over neighbour
desktops. E.g. if I change with the mouse from 3 to 5, the change
happens 3 -> 2 -> 5 or 3 -> 6 -> 5. Desktop 2 or 6 respectively appear
only for a fraction of a second, but it is not very pleasent. Is it
possible to change some variable and make the change directly? I would
be grateful for any idea.
