Ok, you'll want to look around in xfce4-settings/xfsettingsd/.  There 
are a couple places that have lists of xfconf properties that get 
exported as XSETTINGS.  You'll need to add one there for 
Gtk/FileChooserBackend and then set it manually using xfconf-query.
