CTRL combos don't work properly

Hi,
I run Xfce-4.6.1 under Gentoo with xorg-1.5.3-r6.
For some reason the ctrl+esc and ctrl+F1-F12 key combinations do not work. E.g.
I can't open the start menu with ctrl+esc. Also ctrl+FXX does not work under any
application. Strangely other more exotic key combinations like ctrl+shift+FXX
work just fine. This is very frustrating and I can't even imagine from where to
start to troubleshoot this problem. Actually I can - from this mailing list :)
