no window manager after ubuntu upgrade

Either you're not running a full Xfce session, or your window manager
crashed. Simply press Alt+F2 and run /usr/bin/xfwm4 to start the
window manger. Once you've configured Xfce to your liking, logout
clicking the 'Save session for future logins' check box and log back
in.
