Sorry for the delay guys. Thanks for the replies, and I didn't want to
reply until I had the chance to do soemthing about all the suggestions.
I'm still at the same point, but here are a couple of things I did:

- I was still using the stable branch, 4.4.2, at the time of writing,
I downloaded SVN, but ran in a load of problems when trying to compile,
so I couldn't follow that path. I just noticed 4.4.3 was out, so I
compiled and installed that version - no errors. But the problem still
remains.

- I guess I can rule out xfce as the fault then? The link to the possible
problem in xorg, suggests disabling xklavier, but again, I suspect this
is for the 4.6 branch. At least, I have no xfce-settings package or find
anything to do with xklavier in keyboard settings.

- I haven't really found a reference to this particular problem - though
many people complain about the LEDs not working (they don't work here
either).

Suggestions?
